Smith Memorial School, Varanasi)     The word peace evokes in a person vision of doves, a blue sky, silence, beauty and many other different things. As many people are there, so many different thoughts. P People       People E Evolve through Earth A Acts of love Act C Companionship and harmony on Cooperate E Earth Enjoy Philosophers, writers, poets, statesmen at different times have extolled the virtues of peace but it is still a mirage. We do posses unclear war heads, enough, to blow up our planet seventy times over and in spite of this knowledge do not make a conscious effort to do anything about the fact.         Every event is history, which has had an impact and turned the following events, which effect mankind, a certain may, have germinated from a thought. If we think, then we can. Let us stop making excuses as to why we cannot, but instead focus like Arjun on the eye of the target when he used to shoot an arrow, and make individual efforts towards peace and harmony. We Indians love discussions, so may-be it would be a good idea to start one in our circle of friends and get everyone to verbalize their concept of peace. This exercise may prove to be a big surprise and definitely an eye opener as to what our family and friends think – Children who listen and participate will also feel like talking to their friends and thus people will be drawn into the every widening pool of thought for peace. One or more of us may then feel motivated enough to start action at an individual level and slowly work on it. Again the doers in our group would step forward and add their own action and in this way a chain reaction would start, ultimately leading to a noticeable change.         Just as every drop goes to make an ocean each thought, word, deed will add weight to the whole effort of striving for peace.           At this point let us pause and take a quick ‘dekho’ at what negative aspects will crop up. The first will be the idea of cutting down violence, which is increasing everyday with people from criminal background becoming the leaders of the people. The other would be people making us feel our effort is small and insignificant. They would try and create negative feelings by trying to attribute different reasons as to our motivations. Ask yourself isn’t enough that someone – ‘you’ wants to do something?           So everyone who gives you negative feelings should be convinced to join along through involvement giving them a feeling of importance so that they get interested eventually. One would say the situation is bad and all negative-negative-negative. But if we, just remember what Krishnamurthy said, it would help. He said “that one cannot admire beauty without having first seen and appreciated ugliness.”           Similarly as I see if we are not aware of all the most heart breaking, mind blasting, effects of war, violence, will never realize the urgency and dire necessity for spreading peace through love, cooperation and tolerance.           Therefore come together my friends and let us today plant that little seed of peace in people minds and then, nurture it into a sapling, to a mighty tree with roots of love going deep into Mother earth and spreading branches of Universal Brotherhood.
